In memory of the American liberators

At the initiative of the village of Linden, a monument was unveiled in September 2019 to commemorate the crash of an American plane in Linden on Sept. 17, 1944. The plane was on assignment to drop paratroopers in the Groesbeek area during Operation Market Garden. Despite heavy anti-aircraft fire, all but one of the paratroopers were dropped. Heavily hit, the plane turned away and finally crashed in the field of Piet Martens in Linden. The complete crew of the plane and the remaining paratrooper were killed.
