NK Maasheggenvlechten

"Hedge braiding" is a craft that is still practiced today and even has a national championship. Hedge braiding has therefore been added to the Dutch inventory of intangible cultural heritage.

Every year the Dutch Championship Maasheggenvlechten takes place. During this event on the second Sunday of March, authentic hedge trimming and braiding is reinstated. The braiding of the hedge is done with a hedge sword and hiep. Youth are also intensively involved in the development of the area. They plant Maas hedges themselves and receive education.
