Roman, French, German - and yet Dutch
Oeffelt is one of the oldest villages in the municipality of Land van Cuijk. Traces of human activity from well before Roman times have been found in the area. Through the centuries, Oeffelt has been part of the Roman Empire, Germany, France and finally, therefore, the Netherlands.
In the second half of the 19th century, Oeffelt flourished. Around 1870 the international railroad line Boxtel-Wesel was built: the Duitse Lijntje. When in 1885 the Nijmegen-Venlo line was opened, Oeffelt had several stations: Station Oeffelt (see photo), Station Kruispunt Beugen Hoog and Station Kruispunt Beugen Laag.
