Oldest monastery still inhabited in the Netherlands

Monastery Saint Agatha was founded in 1371 by the order of the Knights of the Cross and is the oldest inhabited monastery in the Netherlands. The monastery complex is a national monument, with a large walled garden, a church built in the 15th century, an old library and hundreds of cultural-historical objects. The beautiful monastery garden can be visited daily.

Because of the special history of Monastery Sint Agatha, in recent decades over 100 other monastic communities, winding down their presence in the Netherlands, also brought their heritage collections to this place. Klooster Sint Agatha has thus become the national heritage center of Dutch monastic life
