The village of the three castles

If you want to cross over to Bergen (L), take the ferry here.
In Vierlingsbeek in the past there were no less than three castles: Hattert, 't Oirtje and Makken. By now, none of these three exists anymore. Castle 't Oirtje disappeared first. That already happened before 1700. Castle Makken (or what was left of it then) was permanently demolished in 1806. Only a large barn (see photo) today is a reminder of those long-forgotten glory days.
The oldest castle, Hattert, ultimately did not survive World War II.
