The bull
The Exporum Bull. also called the "Kuukse Stier," is an iconic work of art in Cuijk, created by Rotterdam artist Kees Timmer.
The sheet metal sculpture was exhibited at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels,as part of the Dutch entry.
Louis Jansen, the then mayor of Cuijk, saw the sculpture in Brussels and thought it was a fitting symbol for Cuijk, which at the time was an important center for cattle breeding and cattle markets.
Since 1959, the statue has stood in Cuijk. After a number of relocations, the bull now stands in a prominent spot along the Maas River.
The artwork has become the symbol and logo of Cuijk. In popular speech it is often simply called "the bull," and odes have even been written to it in the local dialect.
