Saint Agatha Route (4.2 km)
The Sint Agatha Route is a 4.2 km boot trail. This hiking trail starts at the oldest monastery in the Netherlands, the Kruisheren Monastery in Sint Agatha. From the various dikes that the walking route visits, you have breathtaking views of the hedgerows, the river and the lateral moraine on the other side, near Mook. During the walk you will not only see the Meuse, but also numerous pollarded trees, hedges, meadows and pools maintained by Staatsbosbeheer.
The boot trail is especially beautiful in spring. In early April, the hedges bud with the white flowers of blackthorn, followed by long ribbons of flowering hawthorns. The sweet scent of the flowers attracts countless butterflies and insects. When the hawthorn is nearly finished blooming, the white flowers of the dogwood and the pale pink flowers of the dog rose follow in June.
The Saint Agatha Trail is marked with green pictograms with white boots on them. It is not accessible to people with physical disabilities because of some crossings and turnstiles. Near the monastery, however, you can walk on paved roads. The dog is allowed only on a leash, because of grazing by sheep, horses and cows. Tip: wear boots in wet weather, as the route can be muddy due to river clay.
You can combine this route with the walking route Oeffelter Meent, making a total of 8 to 9 kilometers.
