Award-winning writer finds inspiration in The Maasheggen
Writer Cobi van Baars, only last year nominated for the Libris Literary Prize, is inspired by and in De Maasheggen, the Cuijk-based writer says in an interview with De Gelderlander on July 30.
From the interview with De Gelderlander:
"Thinking about how people relate to each other, feeling it through and turning it into a story. That is what Cobi van Baars (1967) likes best. At home in her writing room in the attic and sometimes for a week at the campsite, nearby in Oeffelt, when she wants to get on with it. The camping site is in the Maasheggen. That is also the area where the writer often goes to clear her head or just to think. For example, about the book she is currently working on.
Why is the Maasheggen such a good place to blow out?
"It's close by. I can easily just bike there and then walk into the area. I get detached from time there because it's so tranquil. The old cultural landscape along the river, the nature, it's just there. For centuries.
I came up with the main line of my new book while walking through the Maasheggen area. When I get stuck writing, I go there. Because that's where the first thoughts about this story came, that's also where I find the ideas to continue."
