Visit the Biodiversity Day on May 26
Also so curious or interested in what crawls, flies, grows and blooms in the Maasheggen - and in nature reserve De Vilt in particular? Come to the Biodiversity Day on Sunday, May 26 in and around Gasterij 'Onder de Panne' on the Oeffeltseweg 26 in Beugen. Start at 11 a.m., end around 4 p.m.
The public day on biodiversity is organized by the joint IVN departments in the Land van Cuijk. There are various indoor and outdoor activities for young and old. Do come by bike as much as possible, because there is no parking at the location.
To experience for themselves how unique the Maasheggengebied is, visitors can participate in the biodiversity survey on site. During a self-guided walking route, you will search for as many plant and animal species as possible at a number of 'counting stations'. This research and counting of all species provides a wealth of information about biodiversity in De Vilt. You will receive help from nature experts present. Forest rangers are also on hand to show you around.
Of course, children can also participate in researching and counting species. Curious about what lives on and under water? IVN volunteers welcome you with landing nets, water bowls and magnifying glasses. Children receive an activity booklet to write down their discoveries.
There is also plenty to do in and around the Gasterij. For example, there is a "Biodiversity Wheel" where you can brush up on your knowledge of biodiversity in the Maasheggen in an original way. Also, during workshops and in their stands, many "green" organizations will tell you about how relevant biodiversity is for the UNESO area De Maasheggen, for the nature area De Vilt and for the Land van Cuijk. For the youth there are nature games and crafts.
Alderman Antoinette Maas (sustainability, nature and mobility) will announce the results of all counts at the end of the day.
Registration for the IVN Biodiversity Day is not necessary. Admission is free.
The Biodiversity Day is organized by the IVN departments of Grave. De Maasvallei and De Groene Overlaat (Cuijk). The IVN departments are committed to a green, healthy and sustainable Land of Cuiijk. They do this by bringing nature 'into people's hearts'. They let young and old actively experience how fun, educational, healthy and important nature is. They focus on four key themes: Child & Nature, Nature in the Neighborhood, Nature & Recreation and Nature & Health. IVN is convinced that knowledge of and involvement with nature stimulates sustainable action.
