Delegation to UNESCO Elbe region visits The Maasheggen
On Thursday 22 and Friday 23 August a delegation from the Biosphärenreservat Niedersächsische Elbtalaue went on a working visit to De Maasheggen.
The company was received on Thursday evening by Mayor Marieke Moorman and Alderman Antoinette Maas of the municipality Land van Cuijk, Commissioner Hagar Roijackers of the province of North Brabant and Josan Meijers, chairman of the steering committee Maasheggen UNESCO.
On Friday morning, a three-year cooperation agreement was signed between the Dutch coordination point UNESCO Man and Biosphere - facilitated by Staatsbosbeheer - and the German Biosphärenreservats-verwaltung Niedersächsische Elbtalaue. The agreement includes agreements on how the two UNESCO organizations will share knowledge and experience with each other and how they will conduct scientific research, either jointly or separately.
Afterwards, the company, led by Rob Setz, program manager of Maasheggen UNESCO, and Jan Fenten of Staatsbosbeheer went on a field trip through De Maasheggen. Also present during the field visit were representatives of the Ministry of LVVN (Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature), the chairman of the Dutch committee UNESCO Man and Biosphere, the chairman of the steering committee Maasheggen UNESCO, the alderman of the municipality Land van Cuijk, the director of Staatsbosbeheer and the director of Unesco Netherlands.
Staatsbosbeheer has been exchanging knowledge with similar foreign organizations for some time. This usually involves knowledge in the areas of nature management, managing and maintaining landscapes and heritage, organizational forms, water safety, resident participation and sustainable economy. German colleagues from the Biosphärenreservat Niedersächsische Elbtalaue work together on the landscape of the Elbe. Besides knowledge exchange, this visit was also about promoting the importance of biosphere reserves in the Netherlands and what they can mean for the sustainable development of a region. The Maasheggen is an example of this.
