Josan Meijers new president Maasheggen UNESCO
Josan Meijers (64) has been appointed chairman of the North Meuse Valley Steering Committee / Maasheggen UNESCO. She succeeds Co Verdaas in that role.
Josan Meijers was previously a member of the Provincial Executive of the province of Gelderland. Since last year, she has been acting mayor of the municipality of Lingewaard.
As chairman of the steering committee, Meijers leads the consultations, which include administrators from the municipalities of Cuijk and Boxmeer, Staatsbosbeheer, Vereniging Nederlands Cultuurlandschap, Brabants Landschap, water board Aa and Maas, ZLTO and the provinces of Brabant and Limburg. In addition, the chairman of the steering committee will enter into discussions with other parties and potential partners who can contribute in any way to the preservation of the oldest cultural landscape in the Netherlands.
Josan Meijers is pleased with her appointment: "It is quite an honor to be chairman of this beautiful area development, which is not for nothing the only one in the Netherlands to carry the UNESCO Man and Biosphere designation. The Maasheggen is an area full of cultural history and a wonderful example of exemplary cooperation of man, landscape and nature. It is important that many people of all ages can enjoy and learn from the unique, historic and nature-rich landscape. And also that even more people become involved in protecting and where necessary restoring the Maasheggen. There are many opportunities for renewal, restoration and recreation in the area. I am very happy to commit to that!"
