Loerangel pilot for recovery Maasheggen
The part of the Maasheggen area known as Loerangel has been designated as a pilot for hedge restoration. This pilot aims not only to restore the hedgerows, but also to work with adjacent landowners to see what management measures are most efficient.
In recent years we have seen in more and more places in the Maasheggengebied that hawthorn hedges are suffering as a result of suffocation by fast-growing plants such as brambles, hedge vine, hops and blackthorn. Removing the fast-growing vegetation from the hedgerows gives the sometimes years-old hawthorn back room for development. The gaps created in the hedges are immediately filled with area native hawthorn bushes.
The pilot is in line with the special status given to the Maasheggen area by UNESCO, UNESCO MAB (Man and Biosphere).
In this area, there is intensive cooperation on sustainable development in the areas of economy, nature, tourism and water. The aim is to promote a balanced relationship between people and their environment.
The Foundation Landschapsbeheer Boxmeer has been commissioned for implementation. This project is made possible in part with a grant from the province.
