Field excursion on herbs in grasslands
The Management Working Group Maasheggen regularly goes out into the field to gain new knowledge and exchange experiences. On April 16, for example, a surprisingly large group of farmers and managers braved the rain to hear more about the importance of native herbs in grasslands. That this is important the participants quickly agreed, but how to do it is still a puzzle for many.
Vereniging Nederlands Cultuurlandschap started a new approach on its own land in 2019. Peter Verbeek (Natuurbalans): "You have to have a Maasheggenmengsel that fits well and the soil has to be plowed and sown. Then the grass has to be cut and removed in June and September." He also showed that a wrongly chosen or non-derived herbal mixture from De Maasheggen usually does not last long.
