NK Maasheggenvlechten 2022: no public March but winning team
After the forced cancellation of the NK Maasheggenvlechten in 2021, it seemed for a long time that the 16th edition of this championship in 2022 could not take place either. The relaxation of the corona measures came too late for the Stichting Landschapsbeheer Boxmeer (Slabox) to organize a large public event. However, a small-scale event with only braiders proved feasible. Last Sunday, 36 teams of braiders competed, without an audience, for the Golden Hip. The team from All About Green Management was the winner.
What was special this year was that six university teams participated in the championship. Three student teams represented the University of Wageningen and the three teams represented Radboud University from Nijmegen.
Together, the 36 teams ensured that the Maasheggengebied became 300 meters richer in braided hedges. After 5 hours of braiding, the jury faced the difficult task of determining the order of the best braiders. The winner of the Gouden Hiep 2022 was the team Alles over Groenbeheer. The students of Team Wageningen 1 came in second and the Slabox-volunteer team De Botte Bijl came in third. The organization, despite the lack of public, looks back on a successful NK Maasheggenvlechten 2022. Stichting Landschapsbeheer Boxmeer is already looking forward to be able to offer a broad program on the second Sunday of March (March 12, 2023) again in 2023.
