Equestrian network in The Maasheggen opened
On Thursday, April 13, 2023 Alderman Maarten Jilisen opened the new equestrian network De Maasheggen-Overloon. The opening act - the unveiling of an information panel - took place at Equihabitat Hulder 10 in Vierlingsbeek.
The new equestrian network consists of 120 kilometers of trails, 122 routes and 60 junctions. Riders and riders can use the route planner at www.routesinbrabant.nlto plot an attractive route through the UNESCO area De Maasheggen and the wooded surroundings of Overloon. The network connects to the equestrian network of northern Limburg.
Besides the provincial Routebureau Visit Brabant, local riders, drivers, stables and other organizations were involved in the creation of this new equestrian network. For example, the network is coordinated with nature management organizations such as Staatsbosbeheer and Brabants Landschap and together with local riders we looked at the minimum required quality of a number of sections within the network. In the equestrian network, the balance between attractive paths for riders and drivers on the one hand, and nature conservation on the other, has been sought as much as possible.
In motion
The equestrian network remains in motion. Where possible and/or necessary, new trails are created or paths are closed. Developments at De Maasheggen and Overloon will include interests for horseback riding and driving, in order to create the most attractive network possible.
Pilot
In addition to Equihabitat Hulder 10, equestrian center Sprong Vooruit in Oeffelt also serves as a starting point for the equestrian network. The municipality Land van Cuijk sees the now opened network as a pilot. In time, the possibility of expanding to include junctions in other parts of the municipality will be examined.
