Published: Wednesday, June 12, 2019

May 22 was the International Day of Biodiversity. To celebrate this day, Unesco biosphere regions worldwide share recipes of their sustainable local products. So did the Maasheggen. Janneke Bergholtz of De Meerstoel revealed her recipe of the delicious Maasheggen ice creams. The Maasheggenijsjes are made with dried hawthorn berries from the hawthorn hedges that are so typical of the Maasheggen area and play an important role in the local ecosystem as shelter for insects and animals. Sustainable recipes from Unesco biosphere areas worldwide are shared on the Unesco Man and the Biosphere program's instagram account.
