The June issue of the Tijdschrift voor Waterstaatsgeschiedenis focuses on the history of hedges in the Netherlands.
Author Lauran Toorians describes in the article what the function of the hedges was, when the Maasheggen was first mentioned in historical writings, and how the tradition of Maasheggenvlechten is still maintained.
He also refutes in his article the theory that the Roman emperor Julius Caesar meant the Maasheggen when he wrote in his Bello Gallico about "hedges that hindered a smooth march of our army."
